It’s so good to finally see the release one of the video projects that I’ve been working on over the past year. The live footage was filmed last August at the Kansas City Power and Light District when Marianne Michaels opened for the Eli Young Band; some of the studio footage was recorded a year ago at Studio3Productions in Lone Jack, Missouri, and the bulk of the studio footage was shot in January. You might recognize Marianne from her senior photo shoot I did last fall. Her father, John Michaels, has been absolutely fantastic in his support of my efforts on a wide range of projects over the past few years, including some still in development to also be released very soon, and I can’t thank him enough for his faith and confidence in me. And also, I’d like to thank to Don Schmidt with D.W.Schmidt Company for helping me out on the live shoot as well as for being incredibly generous with his assistance and loaning out his gear from time to time.
Editing a video like this is a huge challenge. You’ve got to go through all the footage you shot, taking notes as you go, and then somehow piece it all together into something that’s coherent and effective. And then you may discover you need to do some reshoots (which is what the majority of the studio footage was) to help flesh out the piece. It can be overwhelming, and sometimes the best course of action is to just get started and do it. Being the perfectionist that I am, I can look at several things and think that I could have/should have done better, but in the end, I can say I’m happy with and proud of the video.
